ROLLING RAMPAGE

John St.'s challenge for the Canadian Foundation of Physically Disabled Persons was to generate some positive publicity for an event that few people knew about: a 10K wheelchair road race happening in Toronto. But John St. was as much in the dark about wheelchair racing as anybody. Discussions about the nature of the sport always came down to one thing: speed. These racers approach speeds of 50 km an hour. Racing in such close proximity with each other, crashes and spills are inevitable. With that insight, John St. set about positioning the event as aggressive, thrilling, dangerous, and fast, while avoiding the usual tone of voice given to "handicapped" events. The name of the event, and the work, speaks for itself.
